Introduction into basic techniques, tools, how can effects affect our perception? How can we solve complexity through flexibility? How can we manipulate and evolve minimalistic techniques in order to keep challenging today’s digital design? Developing practical tools to help push and support statements of the future’s voices.

Concept and Wording Consultations. How can sensitive topics - in a religiously and politically dominated society – be addressed? How can negative topics be transformed into powerful statements evoking change and improvement? Which character are you adopting while addressing such topic? Sarcastic, funny, painful, provocative, loud, subtle, to the point, etc. How far out should your message reach? How big are you planning on impacting reality? How can we use the positive aspect of hybridization to communicate in/with/through several voices, languages, ethical backgrounds? How can emerging generations change and influence the future of tomorrow? Practical Implementation. The challenge of reducing and implementing a complex content into a minimum and simple yet loud form. Creating a visual intellectual distillate of a complex topic.

"Ma a k e a Zine"
What We do?
Jeder erstellt ein Zine zum Thema „Mistake“. Interessant wären hierbei Bezüge zu Gra kern, Typografen, Illustratoren, Fotografen, Künstlern oder zur eigenen Arbeit. Ziel ist ein zwölfseitiges Heftchen in einer kleinen Au age (6) im Format A5 anzufertigen. Zum Schluss soll eine Bibliothek in Form einer Website aufgebaut werden.
What We need ?
- jeder bringt eine eigene Arbeit, die man selbst mag und mit der man sich am wohlsten fühlt
- einen Fundus aus Arbeiten verschiedener Gra ker, Illustratoren, Fotografen, Typografen oder Künstlern, die sich mit dem Thema „Mistake“ beschäftigen
- Computer, Kamera, Locher, Stifte, Papiere für Umschlag und Inhalt der Zines, etc. - 3 Vorschläge zu verschieden Bindemöglichkeiten eines Magazines
CORPORATE DESIGN

‣ PRACTICALLY
Three countries need a new Corporate Design. Every culture is different and this can be observed through visual, theoretical and historical research. Students will be going through an intense research-based phase tackling various topics starting from the meaning of forms, symbols, typography and patterns all the way to visual language and the different existing communication strategies. This research is finally applied on building the Corporate design for each of the chosen countries. One unified language is applied on various applications (National museum logo, flag, National soccer team uniform, transportation, transportation tickets, etc.)
‣ THEORETICALLY
The workshop provides the theoretical and practical professional knowledge about concept building process, collecting research, filtering and finally implementing and applying attained knowledge visually. The program intends to strengthen decision-making skills, building up research-based concepts and visually translating and creating the necessary link between information and communication as one uniform and sovereign visual language for a company. ‘Corporate Design’ enhances the student’s filtering and communication skills as part of the conceptual process in building a company’s image.
PRACTICAL SKILLS
Demonstrate ability to translate research-based concepts into visual forms. Build concepts by narrowing down research, simplifying and visually communicating. Formulate presentation and portfolio in one visual communication Design manual. Use the effects of knowledge and background based concepts to develop contemporary concepts. Enrich skills of combining manual with digital methodology in order to fulfill certain functions.
Knowledge and Understanding.
Understanding the importance of research based design and learning how corporate design requires practitioners to possess knowledge about the client / company in order to help build a sovereign concept that will be translated into a visual language. Specify the basic levels of visual communications (Semiotics, Communication, and effectiveness). Define today’s visual language in design as socio-cultural historical development. Collect visual signs through research.
INTELLECTUAL SKILLS
Practice a spectrum of visual elements in design, architecture, and art. Investigate critical appreciation for the quality of local and global visual sings. Compose visual narratives out of design elements and principles. Maintain an ongoing commitment to continuous improvement and personal development. Deliver simple visual messages by using different mediums and materials. Practice skills in researching and solving problems in the visual domain. Examine manual skills in combining and using different techniques. Presentation skills crucial for selling concept to clients. The know-how of building strong and decisive concepts for sovereign Design.
